Abby looks for No. 100 at home in Rochester

Abby Wambach is set to rejoin the U.S. national team next weekend when she will play for just the second time since injuring her knee while preparing for the 2008 Olympics.

Wambach was called up to the roster yesterday to no one’s surprise. She has established herself as one of the game’s most dominant players with 99 goals in 128 international games. She will look for her 100th score in her hometown of Rochester when the U.S. plays Canada at Marina Auto Stadium on July 19.

The U.S. will then play Canada again on July 22 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Wambach was just one of three forwards named to the team, along with Lauren Cheney and Amy Rodriguez. She last played for the U.S. national team on May 25, her first appearance in almost a year.

Yes, I’m interested in updates!

I worked the scoreboard at every home match in Florida’s NCAA Championship run your freshman year. Form one Gator to another, congratulations on 100 goals!

Oh my God! Ever since I was maybe 5 or 6, (the last time you were in Rochester) you’ve been my hero. My dream is to be a better soccer player than you, I really have to start practicing! the first time there was a professional ladies soccer league my mom made me watch it on T.V. so i would learn how they played and to let me know women can play soccer. Then the women’s team left and now they’re back and I love it! My friend and I are coming to your game on the 16th and we’re making a poster of pictures of you. I hope you see it on the mega screen! We’re going to wear our team jerseys! Haha, good luck!!!!!!

Abby, you are a hero to me and i am trying out for my college soccer team as a freshmen because of your inspiration. I have never got a chance to see you play and on July 19th i finally do. I would loved to meat you or just get the chance to have your autograph. I hope you score your 100th. Good luck!!!
